GENERAL
INFORMATION:
Calcium
is critical in plant cell division and is regarded as one of the most needed
elements. Foliar feeding a specially formulated liquid calcium concentrate
is both the most effective and least expensive means of delivering an adequate
supply of calcium to plants. UAS manufactures water soluble 100% Chelated
calcium compounds that is non-phytotoxic when used as directed. They
are immediately available to the leaf and is readily absorbed by the root
system by way of the leaf stomata. We do not add chemical EDTA
chelates, our calcium products are chelated with sugar chelates.
Most growers
may have a calcium deficiency without even knowing it, even when calcium readings
are high in the soil, it may not be in an available form for the plant. Some
of the more obvious signs that calcium deficiencies exist are potatoes that
are rotting from the inside, strawberries that are soft on the inside, and
corn kernels that are indented. Calcium
is also very important during the formation of fruit. It helps build firmer
fruit and lettuce more crispy, which will have longer shelf. When chelated
calciums are directly applied to the soil it will raise the pH. Chelated

When you
buy a non chelated calcium you are wasting money and in the long run creating
more problems as calcium levels build up in the soil and will eventually turn
your soil into a compacted hard pan problem.
CALCIUM
BENEFITS
Calcium
is responsible for building pound solids in the fruits of plants.
Calcium
will aid in prolonging the shelf life of fruits and vegetables.
Calcium
builds quality by neutralizing organic acids in the plants, enabling nutrients
and water to enter more freely.
Just
like calcium build strong bones and teeth in humans, calcium builds
strong cell walls for plants and fruits.
When
nitrogen, phosphorus, carbon and calcium are delivered to the plant it will
help synthesize proteins, vitamins and other building blocks needed
to construct plant life.
Calcium
will build cell walls, which results in more bountiful, firmer, better tasting
quality produce.
Calcium
increases protein and vitamin levels in plants and vegetables.
Calcium
is also part of the make up of enzymes and aids in protein synthesis, cell
division. It also builds cell walls and membranes.
Calcium
is essential for soil organisms including nitrogen fixing bacteria.
Chelated
Calcium is more available then normal unchelated calcium.
Sugar
chelated calcium provided an extra source of nutrition once it delivers the
Ca ion. EDTA chelates will chelate the calcium, but will also lock another
element once it delivers the Ca ion.
Although
more difficult to spot, calcium deficiencies can be detected at early
stages. Signs to look for include:
- upper
leaves are distorted and curled at edges.
- leaves
may have thin yellow bands.
- leaves
may turn brown and die.
- roots
develop poorly.
The
importance of Calcium in any fertility program plays a great and vital
role. Foliar
feeding your crop with UAS's Calcium at suggested rates will supply
your crop with the needed calcium, which it may not be receiving from the
soil.
Soil
test will recommend calcium requirements for your soil. If applying
with herbicides / fungicides consider reducing the application rate recommended
on the label of the herbicides / fungicide. Chelated calcium may activate
products that it is mixed with. We recommended cutting them back up to 20%.
Conduct a small test in feild prior to ensure effciency desired. A jar
test is always recommended for compatibility when mixing two or more products.
